Minimalist case ideas that age well

Trendy designs look great this month. Minimalist designs look great in two years. Here are a few directions worth trying.

The cases people keep on their phones for two years tend to share a few traits: simple compositions, restrained color palettes, and a single point of interest. Here are a few directions worth exploring at the kiosk.

Single object on a solid background

A pet, a flower, a piece of fruit — anything photographed against a single solid color reads cleanly on a phone case. Look at product photography for inspiration: studio lighting, neutral background, the subject takes center stage.

Initial or short word in a strong typeface

Your initials, your kid's name, a single word that means something to you. The kiosk's text tools let you pick from several typefaces. Stick to one, large, and let it dominate the design.

Solid color with a thin accent line

Sometimes the strongest design is no design at all. Pick a color you'll still love next year — sage green, deep navy, terracotta, soft cream — and add nothing else. Or add one thin gold or white line. That's it.

Tonal photo collage

Pick three or four photos that all share a similar palette (everything warm, everything blue, everything earthy). Arranged in a grid, they read as a single cohesive design rather than a scrapbook page.

Negative space — on purpose

You don't have to fill the whole case. A small subject in one corner with most of the case empty can look more polished than a full-bleed photo. The kiosk preview shows you exactly how it will look — trust the empty space.
