The Background tab in the bottom toolbar fills the whole print area behind everything else in your design. It's the floor of the case.

Two ways to pick a color
- Hue slider — drag along the rainbow strip to land on any color in the spectrum
- Preset swatches — quick taps for white, black, gray, primary colors, and a few muted accents
For a textured or pre-designed look, browse the Gallery for case templates that come with a designed background built in, or layer a sticker over a solid color.
When the background does the heavy lifting
- Cutouts — once you've done a Portrait Cutout, the background fills everything around the subject. Pick something that complements the cutout.
- Sticker-only designs — a solid color under a single big sticker is a strong, gift-able look.
- Photo with empty edges — a colored background behind a small photo prints cleaner than raw white edges. Use AI Expand if you'd rather extend the photo itself.
Reading well on top of it
The background affects everything stacked above:
- Light backgrounds — dark text reads cleanest. The plain text style is enough.
- Dark backgrounds — light text reads cleanest. The Stroke option in text styles helps when the text sits on a busy element.
- Saturated colors — keep text and stickers simple. The score will flag Color Distortion if the saturation is past what prints cleanly.
The score article covers what each issue means and how the app weights them.
